According to the actual state of the COVID-19 pandemic, the requirements and rules for the internship practice at the Department of Neurology are changed. Requirements

• Prerequisites of taking the subject: Successful completion of all compulsory subjects (I-V.)
• The internship practice is obligatory. Registration is at the Education / Registrar's Office. The practice is allowed to start ONLY on Monday.
• During the practice participation on consultations are obligatory. Participation on consultations will be registered on specific 'practice' sheets. Minimum number of consultation and every other detail of the practice is marked on the sheet.
• Every student has to write a case report even if he/she spends the practice abroad. Case report should be written in English at the target institute, and it should be accepted by the tutor of the student (the tutor should sign and stamp the completed case report).
• Prerequisities of taking the final exam is the completion of the 4 weeks internship practice and the corrected, signed and stamped case report.

Rules for the internship practice at the Department of Neurology

• Registration for the internship practice is at the Education / Registrar's Office. The number of students who can complete their practice at the University of Debrecen, Department of Neurology at the same time is maximalized. Additional extra registration cannot be allowed, not either after making application.
• Newly arrived students will be divided into different wards on the day of arrival. The order is the following:
  • If you start at ICU: ICU -> Male Ward -> Female Ward -> ICU
  • If you start at Male Ward: Male Ward -> Female Ward -> ICU -> Male Ward
  • If you start at Female Ward: Female Ward -> ICU -> Male Ward -> Female Ward.
• Active participation on the wards is obligatory (morning rounds, BP measurements, ABI measurements, blood sampling, etc.)
• In case of 2-week-long practice, participating at least 6 doctor consultations is obligatory.
• In case of 4-week-long practice, participating at least 12 doctor consultations is obligatory.
• Participating the CT consultation is obligatory every week.
• Your practice starts at 8 o’clock every working day. Please dress in clean white coat. Without wearing white coat, participation at the practice is not allowed, and that day is not acknowledged. Your bags, clothes can be left in the lockers at the 3rd floor.
• Please arrive in time and check your patients in the ward! Please attend at the consultation at 8:30 in the library! No attendance means missing from that day. The morning consultation ends at 9:00. Participating the morning rounds is obligatory (start at 9:00). After the morning round attend consultations, join to your tutor, or train yourself, examine the patients, get some practice in the neurological examination! In order to be able to communicate with the patients, please make pairs with Hungarian students! If you bump into difficulties, ask the MDs on the ward, who will help you. The practice ends at 2 pm.
• Your week is acknowledged by the signature from the leading doctor of the ward on Friday afternoon. If the leader is missing, his/her Colleague is also allowed to sing your practice paper.
• Writing 1 case report is obligatory. Rules for the case report:
  • One Hungarian and one English programme student are allowed to write the case report on the same patient (2 Hungarian or 2 English programme students or more students are not allowed to write case report on the same patient).
  • Only doctors on the ward are allowed to assign patients for case report. It’s strongly recommended to start writing the case report at the first week of your practice!
  • Any consultation about the patient or the case report with the treating doctor is possible only according to prior appointment. The patient’s documents can be seen only in the doctor room. Patient’s documents cannot be taken from the doctor’s room. Taking photo or photocopy of the patient’s documents is strictly prohibited!
  • It’s strongly recommended to hand the case report to MD during your practice. The first correction has to be made in 1 week by the treating doctor. If important parts are missing, inaccurate or incorrect and the doctor ask you to send a corrected version, the treating doctor has additional one week for every further correction. Accepted and signed case report is required for completion of the practice! If you hand in the case report late or important parts are missing, this can cause the slippage of your exam!
  • If the case report is handed in more than 1 month after the end of the practice, the treating doctor may refuse the correction. In this case a new case report has to be written.
  • Please find here the requirements for the case report and the optional scheme, and use the normal neurological status sample.
• You can vote for those medical doctors who helped for you the most. Creative criticism and suggestion can be forwarded (without your name) into the post-box in front of the library (3rd floor).
• Participating nightshift is optional, should be arranged previously with the doctor on call.
• Please consider the dignity of the patients when visiting the wards, laboratories and outpatient units. Inappropriate behaviour (laughing, phoning etc.) during patient demonstration is not allowed. All patient data must be treated confidentially. The patient's chart is a legal document which may be used only on the ward. The patient's chart may not be photographed, copied or removed. If you make notes for yourself, please use only the patients' initials.

Final exam

• The final exam in the 6th year consists of three parts: minimal questions, practical exam and theoretical exam.
  • The minimal questions part is a test on computer with one correct answer. To pass it, at least 80% of the answers must be correct. In addition one exceptionally important question should also be answered!
  • The practical exam consists of the examination of a patient, question from 'Questions and Answers' (note-book published by Dept. of Neurology). In addition, evaluation of skull CT/MR images can be asked as well.
  • Theoretical exam: according to the Topic list.
  • Teaching materials presented at the 5th year lectures and practices ('both 1st and 2nd semesters) could be asked at both the practical and theoretical exams.
  • In case of failing the final exam, an additional 2 weeks long practice must be completed at the Department of Neurology in the UD before attempting the B or C exam.
• Places for exams are opened in the Neptun system before the exam period. Students have to register in Neptun for the exam. Without registration the exam cannot be taken. The first exam is the 'A' chance, the second exam is the 'B' chance.
• ’C’ Chance: If somebody failed both 'A' and 'B' chances, the third possibility is the 'C' chance, which is an oral exam in front of an examination committee. In case of C exam the student has to visit our Secretary in office hours in order to make an appointment with the examiners.
• Grade improvement: If the student wishes to improve the grade, it is possible once in the exam period after registration in the Neptun for a free exam place. Grade improvement will not be considered as 'B' chance. Please note that the result of the grade improvement exam is the final grade.
